As the OER Foundation’s Open Source Technologist, I’m responsible for the systems used by the OERu to make our OER-based courses available to learners, and our collaboration systems (like this Discourse forum and our WikiEducator.org system) as well. I’m keen to assist in this process - I encourage anyone with questions about our technologies and support for “localisation” to ask me! I’m keen to learn more about how our ecosystem of open tools can better support Hindi-speaking learners!

Dear Wayne, Thank you so much. I look forward to working on this exciting initiative. This has come at a very significant time when yesterday (29th July 2020) Govt of India released the New Education Policy 2020 wherein there is an important recommendation to create eContent in Regional Languages. 20200729-MHRD-eContent-RegionalLanguage

Hi Ramesh, That is an important endorsement for our efforts. The UNESCO OER recommendation also endorses the development of multilingual solutions as stated in the aims. Specifically:

"Fostering and facilitating international cooperation: supporting international cooperation between stakeholders to minimize unnecessary duplication in OER development investments and to develop a global pool of culturally diverse, locally relevant, gender-sensitive, accessible, educational materials in multiple languages and formats. "

Our efforts with the Hindi translation will provide valuable insights into developing processes we could replicate in the future to expand offerings in regional languages.

Thanks for sharing!
